It has been a while since I visited the newsgroups and I was surprised to see a new format. I have been a register user of IFW/IFD/IFL for years. I started with v1.xx, I bought the IFW package for v1 and also got v2 when it was released. I don't buy much software, so that says a lot about your product. I use IFL because it is faster than than IFD on my system. I don't have IFW installed, even though I bought it, because I don't like having a bunch of software installed.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to try TBIview on IFL. It took me a while to figure out how to mount the drive to open the .TBI files. I then discovered there was a windows version, so now I can open the image files in Windows and don't have to mount the drive. You guys are great! Steve Gibson even mention your program on his podcast. He is a computer expert that deals with computer security. Check out his website grc.com.

Keep up the excellent work. I also like the fact that we don't have to pay for new version like most companies make you do.

Btw, I mostly boot from a flash drive, but I have a CD too, as a backup.

Tbifan39,

They retired the former newsgroups. You can still access them, but they're read only.

Maybe open the other eye......

How many years ago was Spinrite 6 updated? So long ago that I did not
look like Kojak!

No software is perfect and development stops for reasons other than
perceived perfection.

I don't know how long ago Steve created SpinRite 6.

I do know it WILL NOT work on my laptop. It did work on the
desktop.

I wish they would increase SATA coverage, and maybe other
things, since that is possibly why I cannot use it.

I emailed them about the problem. They had a few
suggestions, none of which worked for me.

The Hitachi program to look at disk health also will not
work on the laptop. Seagate's Program will work to a degree
since the disk is Hitachi.

Mjnelson99,

> I don't know how long ago Steve created SpinRite 6.

During the Summer of 2004 it was released.

He's now working on this;
"This “Off The Grid” technology is the only known system to provide
secure encryption using nothing but a specially designed piece of
paper."

He'll get back to updating SpinRite when the mood strikes him.
Since it's a one man operation & he tends to get side tracked, PLUS
various people are tugging at him for appearances, various programs of
his get put on hold.

SpinRite is Steve's main source of income that pays for everything he
does. Things like newer BIOS', SATA, RAID, etc., Not currently covered
in SR 6, are to be addressed in the next version.

Looking through his old msg's I found yet another reference of his to a
TeraByte product;
