Resize Button Grayed Out

Post by dave61430 »

When selecting the DellUtility-0 partition on a Dell 1555 Laptop, the resize button is grayed out. Also, I have an extended partition with 16 mb free space outside at the end and again I cannot resize to recover the space, plus there is an E beside the entry. What causes this and short of deleting the extended partition and re-creating, how do I fix. Windows shows everything as healthy.

Dave,

Click Properties for the Extended Partition and the Dell Partition. What does the error say?

The E is usually overlapping partitions or going beyond the end of the drive
(BIOS view of drive may be different than raw view).

OK, the Dell Utility reports about ending LBA size, but as far as I know it's the way machine was shipped. I finished up saving the files in the extended partition, deleting and re-created. I'm pretty sure it got messed up when I used mbrwork to restore first track. Then was able to install Ubuntu in the extended partition, letting the install do the resize etc.
