error on restore

Post by laurentw »

Hi,
I try to restore a partition containing very important files. The image is made of 3 DVD because of the size.

When restoring, there is an reading error on the last DVD ! And so I can't recover anything.

I would like to know if there is a way to read DVD (partial image) individually and trying to locate a very important file inside ?

Thanks in advance and best regards.

One suggestion is to try to copy the problem DVD, then do a
validate on the whole series to see if it fixed the problem.

If restoring to the same location on the target, you can ctrl-alt-del when
you get the error then do an undelete (or if restoring over an existing
where it will start in exactly the same location, just ctrl-alt-del, then
get what you can, then delete it since it's no good). Also, some DVD drives
can read discs better than others, so trying another drive may help, or
making another copy as someone suggests. you could try tbicd2hd to copy
the files as well, then try validating them or try tbiview to get the file.

I just did a validate this morning on a disk set that had
failed on to install because of Disk 2 a few days ago.

I used a different DVD burner and it validated OK so it is
worth a try.
