Problem getting bootitng to reactivate

I mysteriously lost the ability to boot Win7 using bootitng a few days ago.
The 2nd OS (Win8.1 preview) would boot. I got no error message. Everytime
I clicked on the Win7 selection to boot, the screen went black as if it were
starting to boot and then a short time later came back to the bootit menu.
I finally had to restore the entire partition from an image I'd made in
early Dec. However, after the install, the computer booted immediately to
Win7 with no bootit menu, which was expected. However, when I tried to
reactive using my bootitng disk, I got the reinstall menu option rather than
the reactivate that I expected. I went with the reinstall, which was
proclaimed successful, but when I rebooted, I still had no boot menu. I've
tried several times and each time it asks to reinstall, not reactivate. It
is installed to the 8MB partition at the end of drive 0. Win7 is installed
on drive 1. What can I do to get this fixed? At present I cannot see the
Win 8.1 partitions and would like to get them back and erase them, since the
preview has almost expired. Using the bootit disk alone does not allow me
to unhide those partitions, as I can't work with the boot menus. And I can
no longer boot to windows 8.

Thanks for any help.

sounds like you have more than 1 drive so it installed on the one that isn't
set to boot in your BIOS - change the boot order in the BIOS (whatever BING
sees as HD0 when you boot from the installation media will need to be the
boot drive - you can use partition work to look).

I tried setting the other hard drive first and there was no change, except that I couldn't even install Bootitng because the partition where I install it is on the other drive. Drive 0 is where I have the bootit partition. When it boots first, I am getting the option to reinstall (not reactivate). It installs successfully (according to the message given), but then when I reboot, I do not get the bootit menu; it just goes to the Win7 OS, as I explained before. Win 7 is installed on drive 1. To get this to work, do I need to create a partition on drive 1 (2nd drive) in order to install bootit on it also?

I may suggest you upgrade to BIBM since you have more control during a
manual install to tell it which drive will be the boot drive. You can tell
if it's booting to BING at all by looking for the EMBRI and EMBRL messages,
if they don't show up, it's not booting to the MBR that BING installed to.
Also, for it to show reinstall, means it can't find itself the drive.

Because I may transition to an Apple computer in the future, I would rather
solve this with Bootitng. If I erase all my disks and start over, first
installing Bootitng, would I then be able to restore my image of Win7 on the
first hard drive (it is now on the 2nd). I want to erase the Win 8.1
preview anyway and begin to use that hard drive for storage. Can I do this
as long as the partition is at least as big as the one that contains windows
7? Also, drive 0 was hidden from the Win7 installation. It Bootit, all
drives are visible when I go to partition work. Is there a way to change
that just using the disk? I noticed both the Win7 and the Win8 partition
were set active. Is there a way to set one of them inactive? The buttons
only give the option to set active, as far as I could tell.

BTW, I tried installing bootit manually on drive 1 on a primary partition
the win7 partition. That still did not allow bootit to come up when I
booted the computer. Must the bootit partition be at the beginning or end
of the hard drive?

Ignore some of the last reply. When I booted this morning, the bootit menu was restored, though the options were strange. Names of partitions had changed to Vista and a third (nonexistant) OS was listed, though the correct os's would boot. The first time I booted after installing bootit on drive 0, it went straight to Win7, so I thought it hadn't worked and it was too late to keep working last night.

I still would like to know if it is safe to delete everything on my drive 0 where Win8 is installed. Is there a chance that the boot files for win7 are also there and I would no longer be able to boot win7? Or does using bootitng make that unlikely? Thank you and sorry for the last post.

I was able to delete the Win8 partition and it booted fine to Win7. I
thought it would be ok since I had installed Win7 using Bootit, but was a
bit nervous Thanks again, Terabyte, for saving me. IFW and Bootit NG are
the greatest! Now if MS would only come out with an operating system I
really wanted to dual boot. At the time, Win8 does not make sense on a
laptop or desktop.

If your Win 7 is 64 bit, I highly recommend getting Bootit BM and use
that instead of BING.

Glad you were able to successfully get rid of Win 8. I did look over the
pre-OEM version and decided NO.
