Assumptions from a completely black screen on Boot-up ?

When I booted my WIN 7 64-bit PC , although the fans ran and the attached printer was powered and , I think the DVD drive worked , there was a totally black screen appeared.

Assuming the monitor can be checked OK by plugging it into another PC and similarly check that the video card is OK , could a failure of the OS to load cause this ? I ask this due to the problems I'm having with the OS as stated in my OP.

When did you decide that the screen was blank? Did you get any BIOS
messages? Did you get to the BIBM loading screen?

If Windows fails to load there is usually an error message. At the very least, you will still see all the normal BIOS screens and BIBM on startup. If you're not seeing any of that, you may need to do a complete power down (disconnect power cord from computer or turn off power supply switch for at least 30 seconds) and then try again.

if you didn't even see the BIOS post messages, you can try resetting the
BIOS, or changing out the memory.

If the graphics card needs a separate power supply, I'd check the
connection is good too.
