As I understand it, restoring to a smaller partition and
there are any files near the end on the original image may
make it impossible to do.
Mary

Defrag may solve that one.

It would, but he is trying to resize not restore an image. Using 'compact' whilst making the backup also does the trick.

He wants to resize. That means any image he makes beforehand
will be a larger size than after a resize.

Should a problem develop, he may not be able to do a restore
to the smaller partition with the image of a larger size.

I had a problem restoring an IFW-made image of Win 7 x64
using IFL. It was a very small difference - like 8 MB. I
could not restore it at all until I did the below. It was a
restore to the SAME partition that failed, too. I was
surprised I could not reduce it so it would work, especially
since the difference was so small.

I resized the 100 MB partition down just enough to allow the
restore.

Eventually wound up deleting the manufacturer's install of
Win 7 X64 and using the MS Family Pack 3rd computer for a
clean install with no excess that I did not want. That also
got rid of the pesky 100 MB partition.

Wish I had done that first and not messed with
manufacturer's install since I knew that was a possibility.

Doesn't take very long after the first time either, does it?

58 - problem with volume bitmap or attribute invalid.
43 - error occurred changing a cluster number.

Based on those which are very rare if at all ...

Run memtest86 on the system (memtest.org) at least two passes then chkdsk /f then you could try BIOS (direct) instead of just BIOS or update the BIOS. If still problem try running the drive manufactures scan utility or spinrite to test the surface.

To have it start at the boot menu, you need to select "Normal" on the Boot Options screen when creating the boot media with MakeDisk (that's the default choice), and then reinstall.

With it already installed, you can also just delete the line "StartAt=2" from the file bootitbm.ini on the Bootit EMBRM partition, by using the Edit File function in Partition Work. On the next boot, it should start at the boot menu, rather than in Partition Work.

Thanks for the info, Ive just deleted the line "startA=2" and now it come up with direct boot menu and not just boot menu ?
