Re: EFI System partition with multiple OSs

Recopied Win 10 #2 [from Win 10] to update changes in Win 10, Win 10 #2 no longer boots. Deleted Win10 #2 and copied from Win 10 again, this time checking "make boot menu". Got message that the boot menu was not abled to be configured [8h]. Deleted partitition and tried again. same message. Uninstalled BIU and reinstalled with all defaults. Tried again, same results.

Is the "Rename Directory" option still disabled? Did you check if the drive was configured to allow BIU to manage the directories?

Because of the way your system is currently configured, if you recopy you may need to use BCD Edit in partition work to adjust the partition references. If they changed from the copy then they'll be wrong and it won't boot. Note that you would need to edit the BCD in the EFI System partition used for booting that particular Windows. The KB article that tells what to update is here: https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=492

Another option would be to retain the current GUID for the destination partition so references wouldn't break. This would be the "UseTargetGUID" INI file option in the imaging programs. By default, the GUID would be changed since you can't have two with the same GUID.

----- Full accounting of my setup -----
Questions are at the end, please answer. Thank you.

"Rename" option is greyed out in all "Boot Edit" entries
In PW menu screen {GPT Partitions], all System partitions show as FAT-32 and in "Properties" show as "Normal Data" type
EXCEPT "EFI System" partition, which, I assume, is the one created by BIU. That shows as "EFI System"
****
System partition [Original] - FAT-32
Normal Data type in "Properties"
BCD edit greyed out - not available
flags-MS: no mount
55 - NOT labeled BIU managed
----
EFI partition-BIU?
EFI System type
BCD edit available but get "no BCD Store" message
Flags - MS: No mount - NOT CHECKED
55 labeled BIU Managed
----
System 10 - FAT-32
normal data type
BCD edit greyed out - not available
flag - MS: No mount
55 - NOT labeled BIU managed
----
System #2 - FAT-32
normal data type
BCD edit greyed out - not available
flag - MS: No mount
55 - NOT labeled BIU managed
changed to EFI type
now BCD Edit available and working
flag - MS: No mount
55 - labeled BIU manage
Modified for Win 10 #2, now boots properly

Questions:
Is EFI System partition the BIU created and working partition?
Does BIU only change the EFI System partition, not the original System partition when adding new OS partitions?
What changes does it make?
When "Add boot menu" is checked, does BIU make a new entry in the EFI System partition? Does it change any other partition or file?
Why did BIU fail in "Make boot menu" in my previous post?
How did the System partitions change to "Normal data"
Why is "rename" not functional?
Remember, I reinstalled BIU with all defaults.
Is MS:No mount flag critical?
