NVMe SSD on SATA converter. Any help?

Hi

I am trying to connect my NVMe SSD (970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2) on a SSD to SATA adapter (Delock SFF-8643 NVMe) and I can't succeed.
I can't see the new drive under BootIt Collection (nor under MS Windows environment).

Any help on how to do that? Am I missing some important setting in my process?

Can you see the NVMe SSD in the BIOS?

Do you have Fast Boot disabled in the BIOS? I had to disable Fast Boot to see my NVMe SSD in a PCIe adapter.

I can disable fastboot under MS Windows. No issue with that and I couldn't find how to disable fastboot under my BIOS. However, I did understand that BootIt Collection comes before any MS Windows (or other OS) starts and I have been hoping that BootIt Collection will show me the connected SATA (NVMe SSD via SATA) device and would allows me to format and partition it as desired.

Is this understanding false?

BIOS Fast Boot (Quick Boot) is quite different from Windows Fast Startup. Fast Boot skips certain hardware checks.

Your issue does sound different from mine as I could see the drive in the BIOS and in Windows but I needed Fast Boot disabled in the BIOS to see the drive in BootIt every time.

Is the drive compatible with your motherboard?

The fact that Windows doesn't see it along with the wording on the datasheet makes me wonder if it will only work via SATA when using a SATA M.2 SSD. In other words, trying to connect via SATA with a PCIe NVMe SSD might not be a supported configuration. Have you tried it using a PCIe slot adaptor?

I am assuming that if the converter did convert correctly I won't see anything else but a SATA interface, that should comply with SATA interface specs.
My machine Dell XSP 8930 supports M.2 interface since I already have one inside and that is used. My goal wold be to use an SSD connected via a SATA interface in order to have it easily removable. I wouldn't like to use a USB interface (because of data transfer rate).

BTW, my SATA interface has been tested with different SATA HDDs and it works perfectly. I hardly believe that SATA adapter Delock SFF-8643 NVMe would not be compatible with SATA interface as stated in their documentation.

Anyway, many thanks for the feedback and I will investigate further.

NVMe isn't SATA - you need to plug the NVMe disk directly into a M.2 slot (PCIe), or an adapter in a PCIe slot.
NVMe is PCIe, not SATA.
