You download the drivers for Windows 7 from the AMD web site (assuming that AMD makes them available).
To install the drivers, you need to boot a live Linux distribution, such as this one:

The processor I am using is AMD.
Not sure what the others you mentioned in your original reply are?
If the linux drivers you installed are different from the ones on the amd sites and the lenovo sites please supply the name of the file that you copied from linux.
I have already tried the packages from amd, lenovo and ms. None of them worked.
I tried pointing windows to an aomei image I had of the old win7 where the drivers were working. It installed amd bus but not the controller. It said it installed the amd host controller but then I got an error message driver not found, so install not successful.
The whole thing is a mess and lenovo offers nothing specifically for the g405. There are about 5-10 driver packages that all claim they activate usb 3.0 but none of them worked. If you have linux drivers give me the names of the file.
The problem is not windows finding them. Just point device driver to the driver and inf directories and it will find them. The problem is they don't work.

The Lenovo web site has the following page:
https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/prod ... s/DS039000
This is specifically for the Lenovo G405, and is the chipset driver package for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7. If you read the details, you will see that it says that it contains support for:
- Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI)
- USB 3 .0
- AMD VGA driver
This is the download link for the driver package (175 MBytes):
https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mo ... t159w7.exe
Let us hope that this works, otherwise you will have to reconcile yourself to using Windows 10.
