I've had experience with BootitNG and BM on a number of laptops over the past ten years. I've come to accept that the mouse is likely to lock up unpredictably. I force myself to use the touchpad when doing a backup or restore. I get over it. No problem.

I installed v1.65 today on my ThinkPad T420 and now have neither a mouse nor a touchpad that works inside Bootit. When in settings, I can't play with the option button for "disable mouse" because I can't move the scrollbar that keeps the button hidden. This computer has been working fine with older versions of BootitBM for the past five or six years.

Any ideas? Any way to revert to an older version of Bootit?

First, your BIOS is what provides mouse support. For USB, it needs
legacy support enabled for both keyboard and mouse. Some BIOSes have a
separate option for each, most have a single option of enabled and
disabled, while keyboard is always part of legacy support, mouse
sometimes is and sometimes isn't.

You don't need a mouse, most of the work I do in it is without a mouse
because it's faster. Here's tips on using the keyboard:

In settings, you can tab to each list box group and use arrow up and
down or even alt-key for the hot key or once in the list, just the hot key.

Thanks for your fast response. You've given me reasons why the mouse might not work, and tips for bypassing it. The fact remains that the mouse has sort-of worked in the past and the touchpad has always worked. Now, neither works.

I checked the BIOS in my Thinkpad. There is one line that says "Keyboard/Mouse", but when I select that line the choices are only for enabling or disabling the touchpad and track point (Lenovo eraser head). The word "legacy" does not appear anywhere.

Bootit BM 1.31d had worked with this computer and mouse for years. After I installed BM 1.65 yesterday, the mouse, touchpad, and track point quit working. They all still work normally in Windows 7.

I got out my other Thinkpad T420, which is configured pretty much identical to the first one. It still has Bootit BM 1.31d installed. BIOS settings and options look identical. The mouse and touchpad work inside of Bootit.

I think something changed at your end, but I don't know what else I can do. Can I simply uninstall version 1.65 and reinstall 1.31d without fear of causing a problem?

I'd probably create a complete system backup and then try it.

I know it would be a pain and arguably not your responsibility, but I'd probably also try some intervening versions and try to figure out where in the 30+ versions you never used this behavior started.

I bit the bullet. Made a backup using v1.65 and the keyboard (blah), then "upgraded" to v1.31d. Immediately got the mouse and touchpad back.

Surely I'm not the only person who's seen this!

I'd be willing to spend some time with the older versions. Somebody would have to make them available, I only have the two I've mentioned

I think that most people long ago gave up trying to use the mouse with BIBM. Instead they have learnt to use the keyboard to navigate the BIBM panels.

Some people are lucky enough to have a system that works correctly with the mouse. My relatively-recent Asus motherboard is like this, but neither of my two relatively-recent Lenovo laptops works correctly with the mouse in BIBM, and neither does my much-older Dell system, nor my even-older Abit motherboard (remember them?).

Precisely CyberSimian, as I noted in the first line of my first post. I can give up the mouse, but not the mouse AND the touchpad.

It would be under your USB settings.

Mouse support hasn't changed.
