Problem with reinstalling Windows

Post by Anzelmas »

Hi, m8s!
I am new here and I am not a computer guru :| So, if my questions looks a bit stupid, don't throw tomatoes at me
I am using BootIt Bare Metal 1.35b. I have 750 GB HDD divided into four partitions with Windows XP installed on every partition. There is 8 MB unpartitioned space in front of all partions and 8 MB partition with BIBM installed somewhere between the partitions.
Everything was working fine till one nice day Windows crashed on the first partition. I have a lot of useful data on D:\ disk, so I decided to reinstall Windows XP to the disk C:\. I have done such reinstallings on other my laptops without problems. But in this case I can't do so, because Windows installer see only the Windows on the second partition and all other disk space is unpartitioned space (see attachment).
BIBM sees all partitions good, I can start all Windows except the broken one without problems. I have made the partitions which I wanted to save hidden before trying to install (that worked to me before in other installations), but it not helps.
How can I fix this problem?

Anzelmas,

Instead of hiding partitions in the intended WinXP Boot Item MBR Details, "Clear" all partitions except the partition you plan to use for the WinXP install. Attempt to boot this Item from the BIBM Boot Menu (this will set the partition table), then install WinXP. The Microsoft installer will only see one partition.

You don't lose any data. The partition can be viewed anytime you desire.
