Is a mouse connected to an USB 3.1 Gen 1 port supported by either BIBM or BIU?

Background: As I recently wrote in another topic, I had plans to build a new pc with an ASUS PRIME B360M-A motherboard and use BIBM, but some of you adviced me to switch to BIU. Unfortunately ASUS replaced this motherboard by the ASUS PRIME B365M-A. The B365M-A board has only USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports on the rear panel, where the B360M-A still had two USB 2.0 ports.

Does the motherboard have internal connections for extra USB2 and/or USB3 sockets? My Asus Z270E has two such connectors for USB2, and one connector for USB3. Each connector supports two USB sockets. You need something like the following in order to use these extra USB sockets:

Other brands are available via Amazon at different prices, although many of them look identical. I purchased one 4-port USB2 outlet, and one 2-port USB3 outlet. Obviously, you need a free "slot" in your case in order to accommodate each outlet.

No problems. I tried a mouse and keyboard in my USB 3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 ports. They work fine in BIU.
Gigabyte B360M motherboard.

Thanks Brian. I already expected that for BIU. BIBM may not support it though. So maybe this is another reason for switching to BIU.

You probably know this, but you can't just "switch to BIU". You have to decide whether your system will be configured to boot UEFI and have GPT disks or legacy boot and (E)MBR disks. Those choices will dictate whether you can use BIU or BIBM.

The key is if your BIOS has "legacy" support for them. Legacy support
provides access to things like keyboard and mouse (making them look like
attached to ps/2 port and available through the BIOS int interface).
Some BIOSes may only offer kb, most offer both kb and mouse, some have
them separate options, some just have an enable/diable setting.

Thanks Bob. Recently I started studying the BIU manual, but I still have many questions. Then I remembered the "Is UEFI/GPT difficult" topic you started in February. That is very educational!
