unsupported boot mode

Post by hime3 »

New ThinkPad. Used Win10Pro to create data partition.
Intend initially to use BIU from USB.

BIU will not boot from USB. Result:
unsupported boot mode
the boot media only supports booting in UEFI mode.
Check system configuration options for UEFI boot mode.

TBWinRe USB created with Image for Windows boots ThinkPad as should do.

Never any problem using BIBM for many years, installed as well as from USB.
Though BIU supports secure boot, might secure boot be problem?

Are you sure the system is booting in UEFI mode? TBWinRE will boot either mode from the same boot media.

Not sure on that system, but the BIOS boot menus of many will show an entry with "UEFI" for a drive to boot it in UEFI mode and one without "UEFI" to boot in Legacy mode. The BIOS should also have a setting for the default mode (assuming it supports both).

Thank you Paul
Boot is set to [Both] UEFI/Legacy Boot
I presumed Both meant UEFI would respond to BIU. But, on closer inspection that assumption was incorrect.
Need to research "why legacy first" is setting on this laptop.
Thanks again
