FAT32 is fine (FAT, FAT32, and BootIt EMBRM types are supported).

This is the type of USB device that the BIOS will be looking for. Current systems just boot USB. Older ones usually offer types of USB devices. It's just a case of matching up the device type and USB layout to get the system to boot it (often through testing combinations until one works).

There is no "best" option other than what works -- it varies from system to system. Some layouts won't normally be available for general use in Explorer, for example (no drive letter). More information on the USB Layout types can be found in this KB article: https://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=317

That confirms what I figured. It's your BIOS. You'll need to update it or
if they don't have a fix, use a UFD or if you have to use a CD/DVD, create
the boot disk for CD with less stuff (you should also be able to not include
the cdboot file or imaging). You could create two different ones, one
without disk imaging, and one without scripting, then install both.

The only measure that invariably produced a bootable CD was to renounce
Scripting Support. The trial versions do not have it and therefore the CDs
were bootable irrespective of the video setting chosen. The CDs created from
the bought BIBM Collection with makedisk option "Scripting Support"
unchecked were also bootable irrespective of the video setting chosen. So
this appears to be a consequence of (as TeraByte Support wrote in his last
posting) "a lot more stuff on the full that fills up the boot image".

I would appreciate TeraByte Support's helping me to realize a quick solution
with my BIBM Collection 1.57 before a fix to Version 1.57 of
bootit_collection_en.zip becomes available:

1. Perhaps a "bios issue off by one track" is the culprit and you could
indicate to me a simple way how to deal with it

or

2. I install BIBM 1.57 from my bootit_collection_en boot CD created with
"Scripting Support" unchecked, and you tell me how to subsequently
incorporate Scripting into the existing installation.

I am hesitant to risk a BIOS Update. But why do you think that the amount of stuff on a BootIt Collection CD must necessarily lead to the kind of problem I have with it? As I indicated in my first posting I was able to successfully create a functioning IFL CD from my ''Terabyte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite" V3. And IFL does not appear to me to have fewer functions than BIBM Collection, does it? And if I compare the size of the EMBRM partition (installed by means of my new BootIt Collection USB-Stick) with the size of the IFL CD (4 MB as opposed to 77 MB) the latter appears to be even more demanding.

because we've seen different BIOS bugs through the years, including them
messing up the code dealing with cylinders and heads. So the prior choices
given are the answer. Linux doesn't boot in the same mode as BIBM does.

Thank you TeraByte Support (NoName) and TeraByte Support (PP) for your help. My problems are solved for all practical purposes and I again have learnt a lot in this forum. The BIOS shortcomings are annoying but I remember they have annoyed time and again you as well as us users and we have to live with them and make use of the workarounds you provide.

Although I had declared this thread concluded in my opinion, I came across a pertinent and interesting fact that I would like to mention here. When trying to create a TBWinRE CD using MakeDisk in my ''Terabyte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite V3'' I was surprised to see that I was only offered USB devices as target. In contrast, when trying to create an IFL CD I am offered that drive. What are the reasons for this difference?

You need to run TBWinPE/RE Builder (TBWinPE.exe) or one of the scripts (TBWinRE.cmd/TBWinPE.cmd) to create the build before using MakeDisk. Without the build files, the UFD shows as a destination, but would be empty if you created it.

This is just speculation on my part, but would using "IFW-Create Recovery Boot Disk" under "TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite" in the Start Menu solve this?

Yes, that shortcut will run TBWinPE/RE Builder.

Thank you Paul for your assistance. With TBWinPE.exe I was able to create a TBWinRE CD using MakeDisk.

@Bob Coleman
Your reference to "IFW-Create Recovery Boot Disk" under "TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite" in the Start Menu was equally helpful to me although the link target led me to "C:\Program Files (x86)\TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite\tbwinre\tbwinpe.exe" as Paul pointed out. But it draw my attention to that very useful Start Menu entry with its many targeted sub items, which obviate the need for dealing with the (for me) rather embarrassing nested folder structure of the Suite. So thank you for this hint.
