BiBM Partition Names?

Post by johnstrasser »

Hi Folks,

So I noticed that I couldn't actually name my partitions. They would automatically revert to mbr 0, mbr1, etc.

Converting to EMDR solved it (which is actually listed in the knowledge base article "Unable to Name Primary Partitions").

Never noticed it before. What confused me though, is that I'm getting this where I only have the 1 partition (my data drive). The EMDR makes sense when I have more than 4 primary partitions. Even when I had multiple partitions, if the disc type was MBR this happened.

Also interestingly is that this does NOT happen when the partition format is NTFS. With every other format I tried (linux, unix, dell restore, fat32, etc) on an MBR disc the result was the same - no names.

I've been using bibm for years and never noticed this. Is this a <gasp> "bug" ?

JS

edit: I just updated to version 1.56

Is the "Use Volume Label" option enabled in Settings?

you can only assign names with GPT and EMBR. MBR doesn't have names. When
Use Volume Labels is enabled, then labels from supported file systems would
be used, for unsupported file systems, it would simply be generic name MBR#
