AGH1965,

My BIOS won't let me do that. I can see the UFD in the BIOS Boot Menu but not in Boot Priority. I tried "One Time Option > Next BIOS Device" anyway, but the computer booted to BIBM.

DrT,

You don't want the Recovery Environment? You delete it. Can you make a TBWinRE?

For quite a while I had a separate Recovery partition present as I installed later versions of Windows 10. I don't actually know if the installations of these versions used that partition or not. Eventually, I deleted the partition and was still able to create a bootable TBWinRE USB drive.

Bob, thanks for the info. Can you run (from Admin Command Prompt)...

reagentc /info

That will tell you if the RE is enabled and the location of the RE.

Edit... In my UEFI Win10 I just deleted the RE partition and tried to make a TBWinRE. I received...

Status
Error: Unable to locate WinRE.

You must be using the old WinRE in the Win10 partition. Prior to the updated RE which you deleted.

I do not need TBWinRE. I have daily backups and use system restore and
have never failed to get out of deep faeces.

If you want to keep the file available it's best to disable WinRE first before deleting the partition. That way the file gets moved to the Windows partition (where it can be enabled again later) and can be found for TBWinRE builds. Otherwise, the build would be based on the backup of WinRE if it exists from a prior build.

Thanks Paul. I was just testing. Then I restored the RE partition. I like the RE.

AGH1965,

Do you use a DVD or USB flash drive to install Win10? I looked at another computer and a UFD is not Boot Priority either.

Brian, I use a DVD. I know I am old fashioned, but I would get crazy if I would need as many USB drives as I have DVDs now, especially since I have all DVDs twice just in case one gets unusable.

Without the second reply, the first one is a very dangerous advice. Please keep in mind that most other users don't make daily backups.

Making a full backup of all important partitions takes me at least 4 hours. Therefore I do that only once a month. So I may get in the situation that I need the Recovery Environment. Therefore I don't want to delete it.
