Trim

Hi,
I have just installed a new SSD which supports TRIM. When I set the
drive to BIOS (Direct), the selection stays but the TRIM button does
not become available/ungreyed. Is there anything else I need to do?
May I also have a reminder about being able to tell if a partition is
correctly aligned please?

Look at PartInfo gui. Sector size should be 512. Divide the partition Start LBA by 2048. If the result is an integer then the partition is 1MiB aligned.
The TRIM button is greyed out for hard drives. Is your button greyed out for the SSD?

Hi Brian,
Yes, the TRIM button is greyed out for my new SSD. I have changed the
access to BIOS Direct as per the manual and it does not revert to
plain BIOS. It is a Samsung SSD and I have set it up to use the
proprietary "rapid" mode, which uses some of the system RAM to
increase performance. I don't know if that would make any
difference...cannot see why it should. the drive does, of course,
support the TRIM command.

Have you tried it without "Rapid"? I gather Rapid improves bench-marking but not much else.
Have you tried TRIM in IFL PartWork?

The TRIM command stays greyed out in BIBM.

Works fine.
OT:- If I set up a cron job for TRIM, does it run immediately if the
schedule is missed? I only ask as I may not be in Linux long enough
for it to run.

No, I don't.
The Trim button doesn't work in my BIU either. But Trim works in IFL.
