Brian is sure a GPT/UEFI wizz! I am staying with MBR as it does
exactly what I want it to do and I fully understand it. My OS drive
has win 10 (don't ask) and 8 Linux distros. When upgrading hardware I
just move the OS drive into the new hardware and this works fine her
and has done for years. If I could wave a magic wand and convert my
whole OS drive to GPT without losing a byte, I'd have a play. I would
be re-inventing the wheel and have to buy BIU.

If my PC would allow me to boot my MBR OS drive, I would have a
separate GPT boot drive to play with.

I almost bought an M.2 NVMe drive until I found out I had to use UEFI,
a fact that was not in the motherboard manual.

Regarding resizing a Linux partition smaller on a GPT disk. Samsung M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD.

Mint 19 partition was resized smaller in IFL, PartWork. Mint19 won't load now. It just sits on the Mint central icon.

Booted into another Linux OS. Ubuntu.

sudo blkid (to get Mint19 partition information for below)

sudo e2fsck -vfy /dev/nvme0n1p5

Mint19 now loads normally from BIU.

Thanks. Will experiment with that later today.
I have a similar disk
SAMSUNG MZVLW256HEHP-000L2 256GB GUID partition table

Presumably the change in partition size doesn't correlate with the partition details retained by grub or Linux OSs.

I was also going to ask re the difference between fsck and e2fsck, but found this good explanation on appropriateness of each.
https://superuser.com/questions/19982/w ... and-e2fsck

Incidentally, I presume the non boot issue is something BootIt UEFI cannot itself rectify, as the issue is caused by grub's or Linux OS 's partition history.
Nevertheless, it would be apropos for BIU to include a solution in it's manual for resizing Linux partitions.

I suppose the level of prerelease testing and documentation is not a priority at Terabyte.

Brian....Cool!
I just resized one of my Linux OS paritions down from 28GB to 14GB....tried to boot it, and couldn't due to previously mentioned issue.
So followed your procedure
no more OY VEY! now all OH YAY!

I still don't think BIU can restore a GPT partition to
- a smaller space
- a different location on the ssd.
This is utility that is very important to me.
I'll have to go back to booting Image for Dos on legacy USB, and seeing if image functionality is less restricted.

No problem with a Microsoft OS. I can't recall what happens with Linux.

No problems with Linux. I deleted the Mint 19.1 partition and restored the image to a different area on the SSD. The partition was resized smaller during the restore.

Mint 19.1 booted normally from BIU. No fixes were needed.

hmmmm. when I try to restore a Linux image to a smaller area, I get a message saying not enough space, even though the data is much smaller than the target partition area.
And there's no option to restore it to a different partition to its original.

Did you do anything special when creating the Linux image?

Bruce, I'm using a home built desktop. Gigabyte B360M MB.

I restored the image to free space. The original partition was 14000 MB and I restored the image to 50000 MB of free space at the end of the SSD and resized to 13000 MB on the last screen. For what it's worth I chose Update Boot Partition.
