NTFS error checking

I wonder if consideration could be given to having the option to bypassing the error checking etc that occurs before resizing and manipulating NTFS partitions?

Working on ext4 partitions does not have this process so I wonder why NTFS does. Surely they are both robust journaling filesystems that are equally susceptible to drive errors? It takes such a long time that I often think that the process has frozen.

If it is really needed just for selected filesystems, I'd be interested to find out why.

Happy New Year to all.

it's needed to ensure the resize won't cause problems.

Is there anyway of having a progress bar or some animation in the
software that would show activity and/or a lack of freezing? It would
be especially useful as modern PC cases do not seem to have an HDD
light.

What is the reason why ext4 partitions do not need a check before
resizing?

We don't do it since it doesn't know how many files prior to checking each
one and we don't spend the extra time getting the count before checking.
Each file system is unique, so it may do some checking ahead of time it's
just faster for want needs checking.

DrT, have you tried resizing partitions using PartWork in IFL? The error checking and resizing is
much faster than in BIBM.

I'll give that a try next time. Thanks for the idea!
