i don't understand what the above means and is there a way to allow it or enable it to happen ?

After a couple of weeks of testing, adjusting User privileges/permissions, building 'vanilla' windows 10 systems and a new 'iteration' of bootnowu it appears that the problem may be related to the Windows API and the firmware. Just the dead end you needed - not !! :)

I would very much like to thank the Technical Support Team for all their efforts - such promptness in replying, contribution and encouragement I have rarely seen in other forums i belong to - thanks gent(s) ! :)

If anyone else uses BootNow UEFI successfully in a WIndows 10 x64 environment please get in contact

Robert,

I use BootNow UEFI to boot other OS from Win10, Linux and IFL (installed on the SSD).

I'm not clear what you are attempting. Are you hoping to boot into BIU and run an IFU backup script?

Does this test work? From TBOSDT Pro in Win10...

set uefi bootnext 0x0003

Exit from TBOSDT.

Plug in a bootable USB flash drive and then restart your computer. It should boot the flash drive.

Do you have other OS apart from Win10 on the drive?

Hi Brian

Thanks for the reply !

I have just one OS (Win10 Pro x64 running in UEFI mode) running on a ASUS X99 Deluxe II motherboard with the latest BIOS.

You are correct - the aim is to schedule BootNow to boot into BIU and run an IFU backup script on a monthly basis.

Your TBOSDT test resulted in the message 'Request Failed (8)!' - was run as administrator - hmmm !

Robert,

TeraByte Support said "If so, the message would indicate that windows can't set the UEFI
variables." I don't know how to fix it.

Bootnowu and set uefi bootnext don't work for you. Don't you like backing up with IFW?

Brian,

That's more or less the the same conclusion we came to and its a brick wall for me too. I'm just going to let it rest for a bit and wait to see if any 'light-bulb' moments happen. :). Until then calendar reminders and 'manual'.

I have been using TeraByte’s BootIt software – (BootIt NG, BootIt Bare Metal and now BootIt UEFI) – since the end of 2013 mainly to manage partitions, automate disk imaging using BootNow and for recovery purposes when needed - and it has been needed ! It’s a great piece of software and worth it even for the limited use I make of it.

As for IFW - well I'm just 'old fashioned' and prefer backing up/imaging outside of an active system ! :)

Thanks for your help - if you have a 'light-bulb' moment let me know !

Robert,

Bootwim might work for you. It does an IFW backup offline.

See Appendix 4.

I understand. I felt that way for a long time. I finally took the plunge and switched to IFW almost exclusively a few years ago. I guess there is always the possibility of a first time, but I've had no issues restoring so far.

I second Bob's comments about IFW. I think most members use IFW for their primary backups.
