BIBM changing drive numbers

I have been using BIBM (and BING) for many years and have never noticed this before. When I installed either one to an empty drive, that drive became drive 0....and if I installed another drive, that became drive 1, etc. I lately added a USB drive before bootup and it became drive 0 and BIBM didn't recognize the EMBR on my primary drive. Adding it after booting up doesn't seem to change it. Has this always been the same in the past and I have never added a USB drive...or have I changed some parameter?
Also, kind of a different subject, but a true or false answer will work. I think I read here that when you reinstall an image, the newly installed partition is defragged. True or false?

That issue has been around for a long time. If the boot order is changing automatically when you connect the USB drive you may need to enter the BIOS and correct it while the drive is connected (set the BIBM drive first and the USB drive second, for example). Otherwise, you can try enabling the "Use Boot Item Disk IDs" option in settings to attempt automatically adjusting the drives when the order changes.

The restored partition wouldn't be defragged. It's put back just like it was (unless you compact or resize, which will move data).

Thanks, Paul for both items. Guess I have never used a USB drive in this manner before.

another thing you can do is disable legacy usb support for disk drives (if
separate option), then it won't show up as a normal BIOS drive.
