BootIt UEFI doesn't remain effective

Post by Bob Coleman »

I can convert my EMBR disk to GPT (using MBR2GPT).

Windows on converted disk boots.

I install BIU. When system boots there is a boot item for Windows and Windows boots via that boot item.

However, after booting the system a few times, it reverts to booting directly to Windows rather than BIU.

At least some of the time, the BIOS boot menu contains a BootIt UEFU entry which causes booting to BIU.

Bob,

I saw this with my mate's computer. Occasionally the BIOS Boot Order would change and Windows Boot Manager would appear above BootIt UEFI. We'd put BootIt UEFI back on top (Boot Option #1) and BIU would boot. The issue settled after a week or so.

Edit... you can check the bootorder in Windows TBOSDT...

list uefi bootorder

OK, thanks. I'll probably try again when I get time though I have to think about whether I want to sacrifice a perfectly working EMBR system to a GPT system which might settle after a week or so and which probably doesn't provide me anything of value except experience.

I finally got it all working, for now at least. In the BIOS boot order, I have Windows Boot Manager and Current. I don't know where the name Current came from, but it seems to be BIU and works. Remains to be seen whether it "sticks".

Bob,

If you click Scripting in BIU, then enter...

list uefi bootorder

The top of my list is...

0) 0x7449 BootIt UEFI

Is yours the same or called Current?

I don't know. I've gone back to EMBR/BIBM.
