BooTiT UEFI and new OS Installation

Post by luca.rings »

I can't understand how to install Windows 10 via UEFI
I have a Laptop with already installed a Windows 10 with UEFI
I have installed BootIt UEFI and all is OK
Now I wan to to install, on the free SSD space, another Windows 10 version
I have created an USB GPT bootable Windows 10 key, I have created a new NTFS partition, I have created a new boot menu with new partition, I have select the USB key from Boot Now but I have a message that tel me "no bootable OS" !?!?
WHY ?
Something wrong ?

Please if any can suggest me something ...

I haven't actually tried this yet, but quoting from viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2853&start=30:

Bob, to create further installs of Windows or Linux is easy. Perhaps easier then BIBM. In BIU create a partition for the new OS, boot the OS install media and install into the partition you just created. BIU will create a new Boot Item. No extra partitions will be created. The booting files will be in the ESP under Microsoft.xxx or ubuntu.yyy. You will see this folder referenced in the Boot Item.

If you want to copy your Win10 partition to create an identical Win10 is even easier. Do the copy in BIU Partition Work, click Add to Boot Menu and a Boot Item will be created.

Tks for the help but there are something strange ...
If I'm using a GPT ssd I must use a Widows X installation UEFI, like BIU, BUT in my PC is not working
I create the USB Windows UEFI from the MS official ISO with Rufus, I select GPT mode, but the installation dosen't start also if ia force the USB installation
Why ?
I tried to create a BIU partition on my SSD and created a new boot menu abut again NO Setup
I also trid the disable UEFI BIOS and tried to use the MBR USB key with Windows X, in that condition the setup start but agian error ... Windows setup tell me that my ssd is in GPT mode so is not possible to use a MBR installation file
I'm very hungry about UEFI !!!

copy files to it, see:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/install-windows-from-a-usb-flash-drive

Your BIOS should have an option when selecting the boot device (via the key)
to boot in UEFI mode or MBR mode. If it's picky, you could change the file
system id on the partition on the USB to the "EFI System" type, it may make
it a little more happy.

Also, you could just use BurnCDCC to burn the iso to a DVD and boot that in
a DVD drive (including a USB dvd drive if none internal).

Finally I have installed a new Windws X on a new partition in my UEFI PC ... BUT after the reactivation of BIU a BAD surprise ! both Windows X not working any more
The 1th partition of Windows and also the new one
The strange is that BIU can manage ONLY the 1th Windows NOT the new one just installed, I don't know why
I forced the second Windows X version but BIU can't find the right file for the boot
The big and very BAD surprise is that also the OLD Windows X installed was NOT more able to boot !!!!
I think because something was changed in the MS reserved partition (I have only ONE MS reserved partition)
... I have a backup ... :geek:

It seam is not so easy to installa more OS in UEFI PC and also BIU it seam a little NOT MATURE

luca.rings,

I understand neither Win10 boots.

Can you look in Partition Work and let us know about the partitions on your drive? Name, size, etc. Do you have one or two drives in the laptop?

How many Boot Items do you have?

In Boot Edit, what is the Boot File path for each Boot Item?

Have you done a BCD Edit on each Win10 OS? Select the EFI system partition in Partition Work, click BCD Edit and choose the relevant item.

Select the EFI system partition, click Properties, in the Flags section is Bit 55 "BIU Managed"?

I have NOW 3 partition :
BOOT --> EFI system --> 499MB
MSR --> Microsoft Reserved Partition GPT --> 128MB
WINDOWS --> NTFS --> 200GB
(new WINDOWS --> 250GB free space)
Only one SSD
Only one Boot Items and it's wotking
I have created a Widnows Installation USB
Started the installation via BIOS selecting the USB key
During Windows Setup I select to install it on the free space of may SSD
All set up is OK but in the last reboot system doesn't start any more !
I boot the system again via BootIt USB key and reactivate it
After a reboot I can see again ONLY ONE boot items, the old Windows, NOT the new one just installed
I tried to boot the OLD Windows partition ... NOTHING !
So I have tried to create a new boot items with the new Windows partition just created, ERROR in the boot files, BootIt can't find it
So now I have an SSD with 2 Windows installed and NO ONE can start !!!

OK. Understood. Let's concentrate on the old Win10. Can you answer my questions for the old Win10?

Is it correct that you now have 3 partitions?
