I have read the manual about the aligning on cylinder option. It shows
how to activate it and what it dopes, but does not tell me WHY I would
want to do it.

From what I read, align on 1Mb and align on cylinder should both be
selected. Is that right?

One or the other but not both. Since Win7 onward I've only used 1MB.

Page 65 of the BIBM manual suggests one can use both. As usual with
TBH manuals, it tells you how to enable or disable something, but not
WHY one should do so. I currently only have the 1MB setting selected,
but I don't recall why .

1Meg Boundaries is enabled so SSD's are aligned. Otherwise, it will 'straddle' blocks when writing. reducing performance and life of the drive.


Guessing the Cylinders thing is for HDD's and does something similar.
