BIBM with Toshiba Encore 2 Tablet

Hi,

I just got an Toshiba Encore 8 (64GB drive) tablet and it came with Windows 10, and I was hoping to use some of the TBU tools with it. I was able to get into the BIOS settings, but I noticed it has Secure Boot and something called XHCI enabled (can be changed to "EHCI").

I found this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2459

and understand that BIBM and IFL should be able to boot, but BIBM cannot be used as a boot manager. That's ok, but I am unclear how to get BIBM, and in particular Partition Works and IFL working?

I bought an OTG (microUSB-to-USB) cable, and I also have both an external DVD drive and a USB stick that can be booted as a USB floppy.

Can anyone tell me what I need to get (I think I have a BIBM bundle license) and what I need to do, maybe to get the tablet to boot off of the USB stick or DVD? Also is there any possibility of getting the BIBM and IFL etc. to boot from the internal SSD/EMMC drive, so I don't have to carry the USB stick and the OTG cable around all the time?

Thanks,
Jim

xhci is usb3, ehci is usb2 so leave xhci enabled.

See http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=572 for booting on
UEFI systems.

I will look at the article but I tried with my ifl DVD and was able to boot the DVD but had to disable secure boot.

But after booting, it didn't respond to the touch screen. But the tablet has only one micro USB port ...

Jim,

Can you try a IFL USB flash drive. Can you try a 64-bit IFL USB flash drive. Can you try a TBWinRE USB flash drive made on the Toshiba tablet.

After IFL/IFW is working you can pull it out and connect your external HD, if desired.

How about a powered USB hub and wired mouse?

I think my IFL SD card was uefi and I can boot from it in Win 10 w/o
turning off uefi. That is what I used to restore a Win 10 image. Look
for that option in IFL 3.

Hi,

I'm kind of confused about something. The article that TBI support posted says that if I switch the BIOS to Secure Boot off, that BIBM will be able to boot.

But, I also noticed that if I switch the BIOS to disable Secure Boot, the tablet can still boot Win10 ok and everything seems to work "normally".

So does that mean if I disable Secure Boot that I can install BIBM to the internal drive (EMMC) and also dual boot and use the IFL that comes with BIBM to do partitioning?

Thanks,
Jim

No, it's still a GPT disk. You can install IFL to the GPT disk and boot it from the "BIOS" boot menu.

To convert to a normal MBR/EMBR drive you'd follow this

Brian,

How do I make/get an IFL USB flash drive?

I purchased the BIBM/Image Resotre bundle awhile ago. Is IFL in there somewhere?
