Booting UEFI/GPT in Win 10

Post by mjnelson99 »

I have been able to boot IFL sd cards successfully in Win 10.

I have not been able to boot a BIBM sd card though.

I had an older version of BIBM so I updated. Still no joy.
Any ideas?

It's not Win10. It is UEFI...

It's easier to run Partition Work from IFL as IFL can boot in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled.

This doesn't exactly make sense, I don't think. If you boot IFL, you're not "in Win 10".

I had to get past UEFI using IFL in order to image Win 10.
So perhaps my sentence is more clear now.

Mary,

When you boot IFL do you press a key to bring up a Boot Menu?

In the Boot Menu do you see two entries for your IFL boot media? (One will be labelled UEFI) Or only one?

I need to hold down Shift key. Then hit Restart. Hold Shift down until
the blue screen with USB options comes up. Then choose your device.
Sometimes it shows Other Devices on a different page.

The name of the device varies with different SD cards.Play with it.
One is just Removable Device or similar.

If it doesn't like the device, it will just boot into Windows.
Hopefully this sequence will work for you, too.

Holding down Shift won't help if you can't get into Win10. Say you have a HD failure.

You need to find a key that will get you a Boot Menu or into the UEFI firmware. For example Del, Esc, F2, F8, F12, etc.

No, it won't. This is for normal imaging.

What the guy who put Win 10 in English suggested, is to reinstall
Windows, THEN use that to get to IFL for the restore.

I used the MS program to set up a SD card with Win 10 on it. I then
restarted with the SD card inserted. It immediately tried to install
Windows w/o any intervention from me. I quickly powered it off and
removed the card. I am not sure what version of Win 10 MS put in the MS
download either.

I do have an ISO of the Win 10 64 bit Single Language Jeff installed.

Not sure what the computer will do if Windows won't start. Then, it
might be possible to use a different approach w/o needing to reinstall
Windows to get at IFL.
Some HP's say F10 and other options I don't remember.

Mary, with respect that is a lot of unnecessary work. If the HD fails, replace the HD, open the Boot Menu, boot IFL and restore an Entire Drive image. There is no need to reinstall Windows.

You need to know how to access the boot menu. HP does not make that
knowledge available as far as I have seen. I have tried booting pressing
different keys. None worked. It only booted Windows.

I know it is more work and until I find out how to access the bios, I
will keep it on the back burner. It is still easier than having to
install ALL the other stuff along with Windows.

If you find a different solution that works, please put it here.
