Opening screen messages SATA "Bias"

Ok, it was not easy but I got all the opening loading screen messages from bootitbm. Are these correct?:

"Bootit EMBR1 4.00

Bootit EMBRL 4.00

Please wait....

Starting...

bootit Bare Metal 1.31c copyright 1996-2015 Terabyte,Inc.

Reading 1 BIOS hard drive(s) to gather data for SATA Bias option"

what is SATA "Bias option"?

Maybe the delays I have been experiencing and sometimes failure to load would be solved if I changed the BIOS HD controller to IDE instead of SATA?

I can only guess that the program author has a spelling handicapped and meant "bios".

That and the fact that he puts menu items on users screen that do not work.

wizzleme, it not misspelling. It is BIAS and not BIOS. I had the same experience in the past including the long waiting time during which the "data for SATA Bias option" were being gathered.
I do not remember what the solution was then. But it was not a hardware problem.

You can find a lot of hits if you google for "SATA BIAS", e.g.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1053
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=851&start=10#p4078
http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showth ... -Makedisk-

None of them offered a straightforward but rather fortuitous (if at all)
solution as far as I could see at a quick glance. But you may find nevertheless some helpful info in them.

The second link also results in there not being a hardware fault.
The third link is interesting in that this BIBM problem is addressed in a non-Terabyte forum. I may quote a few lines:

I am hoping there are other users of Terabyte Unlimited Image for DOS since it is Fred Langa's recommended backup program. I recently upgraded from version 1 to version 2 and am stymied by some of the new options in the Makedisk Utility. The ones that have me confused are:
ATAPI DMA (PATA)
Disable SATA
Disable SATA Bias
Disable Global Geometry
Disable Align MBR for BIOS Auto Mode

I just happened to detect this:

thanks, Sigi

Those makedisk options are part of the bootitbm install usb? (from memory, no time to look it up).

Still don't know what the disable bias is, sorry.

Glad if it's not a hardware problem, I will google it later to see if I can determine (based on my limited hardware knowledge of SATA hds) why this is responsible for a delay to the boot screen and at times, no boot screen at all requiring a reboot.

Lately I have been questioning why I use my laptop at all. The internet keeps getting progressively worse, more crap, lies, garbage, threats, I am wondering if all the time I waste trying to get programs to run correctly is worth it. TB has saved my butt a number of times so I continue to use it, but I am still getting BSOD occasionally from windows 7, which supposedly is the "best" version of windows (I think XP is). It's a challenge, but without much reward at the end.

just search the manual for bias and it's all there.

You may want run memtest86+ from memtest.org on your system overnight,
strange bsod type problems can be memory (as well as hardware or drivers).

OK thanks,

Yeah that's what I was thinking, so installed Burnitest (passmark).

But one thing I fear is if I test it, maybe that will push it over the edge and I will have a broken laptop.

Memory is inexpensive. I chose to just change it and find out if that
WAS the problem.

In my case, it was.

I ran into this problem when moving a HDD from a Dell E6420 I3 to a E6420 I7 . BootitBM media wouldn't even let me into partition work on the install with issues, so I brought it to another BIBM install and changed my video mode from "0" to "1" and viola, its working again.

Hope this helps.
