If it needs to be inserted, how can EaseUS DataRecovery see the drive
and its files?
I am not arguing. It just seems like the drive should be seen as is?

I took a chance and went into BIBM. There was no recovery option
available so I am back to EaseUS and it will be 6-8 hours in all
probability.

From what I have seen so far about a disappeared drive EaseUS has the
option to go there so it can look there specifically. A useful feature,
is it not?

Mary,

In BIBM Partition Work, select the Drive for the USB HD. Do you see a Partition or Free Space?

In BIBM Boot Edit, select the Boot Item and click Edit. For the relevant Drive, select the 0) line and click Fill. Is there a Partition?

you just go to the drive and change the disk type from EMBR to MBR or add
the partitions to the boot item. See the first quick link at
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/support-bootit-bare-metal.htm

if they didn't show up in partition work, you'd just click undelete.

I installed BIBM with more than 4 partitions and Windows is booting okay.

I should have disconnect BOTH USB hard drives first though.

A 2 GB Seagate drive wit over 1 GB of stuff on it is now a blank disk.

I have not done anything with it right now.

What can I do to possibly recover at least part of what was on it. It
also contained many Image files. Some of those ARE elsewhere as well.
Thanks

If you have the drive attached at boot, the BIOS will map it in, that's the
only way the boot item or install would access the drive to create or
configure the embr. Otherwise, the USB bus option if on USB2 could be
used. So just attach the drive, boot, go to that drive, change the disk
type to MBR so you don't have to worry about the boot item configuration.

Shouldn't BIBM see the drive w/o putting it in??????
I haven't used embr for a LONG time now when I used BING.

It sounds as though you are having the same problem that I am -- my USB disk cannot be seen by BIBM in "Partition Work". What worked for me this morning was:

(1) Plug disk into a USB3 socket (even though the disk is USB2).
(2) Power on the disk and wait 10 seconds.
(3) Power on the laptop and boot BIBM.
(4) Disk cannot be seen by BIBM in "Partition Work".
(5) Reboot BIBM; disk is now visible and can be accessed.

Why is the reboot necessary? I don't know. :?

One other piece of advice that may relate to your other problem with the disappearing files:

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER create EMBRs on removable devices such as USB disks.
Use EMBRs only for internal disks.

I was able to recover quite a bit of stuff from the erased drive using
the program I mentioned.

It is now MBR & functioning okay. Both Windows and Defraggler say it is
healthy. I had no problems formatting it in Windows.

Yet when I attempted to format it in BIBM first, it had a problem. I
think it said there were disk problems. Not sure of the wording.
Now I am not sure if it is really damaged.

P.S. It would not let me change it to MBR at first.
I had to play with it first.

You didn't need to do anything other than adjust the boot item or undelete.

at this point, if you want to reformat, just change type to mbr, create one
big partition. Otherwise if already there with the files, just use that.

This morning it changed the D partition and a different USB drive to
EMBR. I DID NOT change it myself and neither were EMBR this morning on
bootup.

I went in looking for some info and actually made no known changes. Next
thing I know both are unavailable in Windows.

I managed to get the Toshiba drive accessible again and it looks like it
is complete.

When I look at D it does not have an active link to Change MBR and IT IS
now EMBR.

Since I am not sure how to add a non-bootable partition to the boot
menu, would love to just get D back where it was.

Will try again AFTER imaging my Windows partition.
