New world - Dell M7510 - What to do?

Hi,

I just got a refurbed M7510 that has:

- A 256GB M.2 SSD
- A 1TB hard drive

OS is Windows 10 Pro.

I noticed that it came with C: being the hard drive and D: being the SSD :(, and doing some early googling, this seems like anomaly with Dells?

I'm a long time BING user, and haven't gotten BBM yet, but if it can help me get this machine configured "correctly" (with the C: being the SSD and the D: being the hard drive) and (b) maybe get rid of the 100MG reserved partition, and (c) deal with the UEFI BIOS, then maybe it's time to take the plunge.

Does anyone here have one of these laptops, or any of the other similar Dells? Can BBM help me?

FYI, it didn't come with the recovery media, but I was able to get it downloaded from Dell onto a USB stick that I can boot to using the F12 button to select boot device.

Thanks,
Jim

I just found this thread over at the Dell forums (GULP :(!). Would it be easier to do what they were doing if I was using BBM? What they were suggesting seems to involve installing Windows twice, once on each drive?

I was wondering... if I use BING or BBM, can I do something like we used to be able to do with BiNG, where you set a drive to "Swap"?

you'd have to convert to MBR/EMBR using the chgdtype.tbs script. Then once
booting, you can use BIBM normally. When you install Win10 to alternate
drive, create partition, boot item, use swap, attempt boot, and message you
can't boot, turn off system, detach main HD and leave only that other drive
attached, install Win10 to the existing partition (it may end up going off
half-cocked on its own creating additional partitions), then when done, put
back the drive and use the boot item (if it created a new boot partition,
use that as the boot and include the other in the mbr details).

The 100 MB in Win 10 is more like 450 MB.

Jim,

Did you want to copy (image/restore) the OS from the HD to the SSD and then install BIBM to the SSD? There is no need to install Win10 again.

If that would work, that sounds great, but I messed up big time I think. I had downloaded a recovery image from Dell support and I wanted to see what that did, so I ran it. That was kind 3-4 hours ago, and it's now still spinning at 99%.

Can you tell me how you accomplish what you said. If BIBM can do that, that'd be great.

Jim

BTW one other thing is that I disabled the secure boot and also set the BIOS back to NOT UEFI already.

I finally bought a BIBM license and it looks like the recovery is almost done.

Should I just install BIBM and let it choose where to put itself, and then use BIBM to copy the partitions from the hard drive to the SSD?

I tried to install BIBM but I keep getting "Unable to install EMBRI/EMBRL!"
