Anyone used *BSD?

I'm interested in having a look at FreeBSD or PCBSD. Has anyone used these with Bootit?

I have tried KNOS http://knosproject.com/info.html which is based on FreeBSD and which has strong security claims. It is primarily designed to be run from a live DVD (too big for a CD) but can then be written to a USB stick which can also be run in a secure manner. I have found that it can be invoked as one of the OS's in the BIBM menu if you set up the appropriate boot edit item to point to the USB stick. However I understand that although it can be installed on a hard disc it really needs exclusive access to the hard disc.

That set me thinking about whether this also applies to one of the other BSDs FreeBSD or PCBSD which I'd be keen to try. If anyone has any experience of either of these I'd be most interested to know if they have run it within a BIBM (or Bing) setup. Before I plunge into trying it would be good to know if there are any gotchas I ought to be aware of.

Yes. Create a BSD partition, do NOT use the BSD boot loader (no need)
and DO allow the installer to make the 'slices' or partitions. I'm
waiting for PC-BSD before I try it again.

From TBU:-
"PC-BSD is based on Free BSD, which is not Linux, and is a different
kettle of fish. The BSDs can install into one primary partition (they
call it a slice), which it divides up into sub-partitions which they
call partitions.

You basically need to create one primary partition of type A5h (165
decimal), and then select that partition to install to during
the installation. You also want to uncheck the option to install the
PC-BSD boot loader, since installing it will overwrite BING.

After the install completes, you should be able to boot into it from
BING by booting that primary partition".

Is this version 9 you are waiting for? How did v8 fare?

v8 worked okay, just did not like it. It may not be linux, but I compare it to linux. Did not like being restricted to a given desktop. I'm a linux mint fan - they just work.
