I have to correct myself and ask an additional question:
Once in BIBM, I cannot directly boot into Win7 but am referred back to the Win8/10 Boot Manager, which now has a bootable Win7 item though.

What can I do to avoid this detour via the Win8 Boot Manager but make Win7 directly bootable from BIBM?

So your notebook has space for 2 internal hard drives ?

or is one installed using eSATA or USB ?

sigi,

So no plans to run Win8.1 from your SSD anymore? Sorry, but I think running Win8.1from the HD when you have a SSD is sub-optimal.

Answering Brian's question now (I will do that later) would remove the focus from my last question i.e.

"Once in BIBM, I cannot directly boot into Win7 but am referred back to the Win8/10 Boot Manager, which now has a bootable Win7 item though.
What can I do to avoid this detour via the Win8 Boot Manager but make Win7 directly bootable from BIBM?"

Terabyte Support reacted on that by asking whether my notebook has space for 2 internal hard drives. In my answer to that I attached a photo of the interior of my notebook. I am not sure whether this was directed at providing necessary background info for the answer to my boot problem. Anyway, I would highly appreciate guidance now as to how I can boot Win7 directly from BIBM.

to boot direct, you have to have the bootmgr file and the \boot folder on
that drive and the entry needs to point to that instance of windows.

See these two:

The entries were already what they should be:
under Menu > Device: "HD-0" and "Win7"
under Menu > OS Device: "HD-0" and "Win7"
under Windows Boot Manager > Device: "HD-0" and "Win7"
under Windows Boot Manager > Windows Memory Diagnostic: "HD-0" and "Win7"

not applicable because my SSD does not have a Windows "System Reserved" Partition.

snip

Since I did not have to change anything the boot behaviour has not changed either: Selection of "Win7" in the BIBM Boot Manager takes me back to the Windows Boot Manager with the additional bootable item "Win7".

Is there anything else I could try?

remove the timeout on that menu (via bcdedit in bibm or in windows advanced
properties after booting to it).

system properties, advanced, startup and recovery, you'll see it there.

Thank you. That was the solution. When I now select the Win7 item in the BIBM boot menu, the Windows Boot Manager very briefly flashes up (so that one cannot read which items it contains) and Win7 is directly booted.

Brian,
for the moment I am happy with the situation as it is because no further work is needed now shortly before my holiday. Win8 (GPT HDD) is directly booted from Windows Boot Manager, the two SSD OS's can be directly booted from BIBM, which has to be evoked by just pressing ESC.

The GPT HDD can retain its special partitions, and C:\ can be reduced in Windows Disk Manager from 413297 MB to 206373 MB thus making room for an Extended. TBWinRE will be responsible for backups of the HDD.

The SSD is governed by BIBM/IFD, and the OS's on it will have their Extended on the SSD.

I cannot rule out that I might be interested into transferring Win8 to the SSD at a later stage. In that case I will most probably have to start a new thread on tbosdts because I will have to use it for GPT/MBR conversion (since BIBM cannot see my HDD).

Thank you so far for your help and for your permanent readiness to provide assistance to users of Terabyte products here in the forum.

sigi,

Understood. Please keep us informed if you do the GPT to MBR/EMBR conversion. I'd be interested to hear if BIBM can then see the HD (when it is not GPT).

Enjoy your holiday.
