GPT Disks

Post by novice »

Hello,

Using BIBM to change disk type to GPT, automatically a Microsoft reserved partition is created.
What's up with that??

What if i just want to install OS's other than microsoft's or, use the disk for data?

What's the purpose of this partition and can i delete it without consequence?

Thanks

It's a required partition.

OK, thanks Paul,

I read the link you provided and can see the necessity of this partition.
However, why the reference to Microsoft? Why not call it Linux Reserved Partition?

You can delete it if you don't want it but there are MS OSes versions which
won't see the partitions if there is no MSR on a GPT partitioned drive.
