Missing Drive Letter

Post by Jim22 »

I have a NTFS hard disk installed in an external drive that I want to use for data purposes. It had a single Win XP C: partition, and I’m using a computer with Win XP. I decided to resize the partition to fill the drive, and then reformat. I used Partition Magic 8, and something obviously went wrong while resizing - it didn’t finish, and I was told to contact tech support. I tried reformatting, and ended up with a partition with a name but no drive letter. Using Directory Opus (Windows Explorer on steroids), I could no longer see the external drive. Partition Magic displayed the drive and name, but with no drive letter.

Partition Magic has been purchased by Symantec, and I checked the new forums. Someone had an overlapping partition issue, and the answer was to use BootitBM. Fortunately, I purchased the new “Bundle” a few months ago, so I’m here.

Could somebody point me in the correct direction or give me some details? I started to read the manual, but it is a long procedure.

In Windows Computer Management, go to Disk Management, Right click on the
partition and assign a drive letter.

You could also run the script setwindl.tbs script..
