NTFS Error: 58

Post by jdmckay »

Hi:

Error 58 appearing when I try to resize my primary boot partition. Google did not give me much info on that code. This partition is MS Vista (Business Version).

Appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed, what that code means, and if it's even fixable. This Primary Vista partition will (all of a sudden) simply not Boot: goes into "Welcome" screen, the little arrowed circle does it's thing endlessly, boot process never gets past there.

Thanks.

Are you resizing when restoring the partition? Are you using the current version of IFW/IFL/IFD?

I have license, but not using IFW: what I report occurring within BIBM"partition work".

This is an Acer Travelmate, nearly 4 years old. I boot through BIBM, and partitioned disk some time ago so a clean OS (Vista Biz) resides as a BIBM created image in a hidden partition.

My working Vista partition went south yesterday, w/symptoms I describe (unending welcome screen). No clue as to problem. Went to into BIBM, was going to resize currently problematic VISTA boot partition down. That's where BIBM reported error code I describe.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thx.

boot to a windows recovery console and run chkdsk /p on the partition to
clean the file system up. You may want to run a memory test prior to doing
that just in case. memtest86+ from memtest.org
