{"id":589,"date":"2013-12-06T04:59:00","date_gmt":"2013-12-06T12:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kb.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb-articles\/computer-doesnt-wake-to-run-scheduled-backup\/"},"modified":"2021-09-07T15:05:20","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T22:05:20","slug":"computer-doesnt-wake-to-run-scheduled-backup","status":"publish","type":"lsvr_kba","link":"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/kb-articles\/computer-doesnt-wake-to-run-scheduled-backup\/","title":{"rendered":"Computer Doesn&#8217;t Wake to Run Scheduled Backup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Problem:<\/font><\/strong> <\/p>\r\n  <p>Computer doesn't wake to run a scheduled backup task.<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Cause:<\/font><\/strong> <\/p>\r\n  <p>This problem is usually caused by the option to wake the computer to run the task not being enabled or by wake timers being disabled (Windows 7 or later).<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Solution:<\/font><\/strong> <\/p>\r\n  <p><font color=\"#005858\"><strong>Verify Task is set to Wake the Computer<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\r\n  <p>When creating the task make sure to check the <strong>Wake the computer to run this task<\/strong> option. This option is available on the <strong>Settings<\/strong> tab when creating the task directly from Image for Windows. If using the Windows Task Scheduler, the setting can be found on the <strong>Settings<\/strong> tab (XP) or the <strong>Conditions<\/strong> tab (Vista or later).<\/p>\r\n  <p>Please refer to this KB article if you need help configuring the task:<br \/><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/?p=271\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Schedule Image for Windows Backups Using Task Scheduler<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n  <p><font color=\"#005858\"><strong>Verify Wake Timers are Enabled (Windows 7 or later)<\/strong><\/font><\/p>\r\n  <p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <ol>\r\n    <li>Open the <strong>Power Options<\/strong> Control Panel tool:<br \/><br \/>\r\n      <ol type=\"a\">\r\n        <li>Press <strong>WinKey+R<\/strong> (hold down the <strong>Windows key<\/strong> and press <strong>R<\/strong>) to open the Run window.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n        <li>Type <font color=\"#008800\" face=\"Courier New, Courier, monospace\"><strong>control powercfg.cpl<\/strong><\/font> into the box and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n      <\/ol>\r\n    <\/li>\r\n    <li>Click the <strong>Change plan settings<\/strong> link for the selected plan.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>On the <em>Change settings for the plan<\/em> screen, click the <strong>Change advanced power settings<\/strong> link.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Expand the <strong>Sleep<\/strong> item.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Expand the <strong>Allow wake timers<\/strong> item.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Change the setting to <strong>Enabled<\/strong>. On systems with a battery you will need to enable it for both <strong>On battery<\/strong> and <strong>Plugged in<\/strong> if you wish it to apply in both cases.<br \/><br \/>Note: If you aren't able to change the setting, click the <strong>Change settings that are currently unavailable<\/strong> link in the top section of the window.<\/li>\r\n  <\/ol>\r\n  <p>&nbsp;<\/p><hr \/>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Technical Notes:<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <ul>\r\n    <li>The <strong>Allow wake timers<\/strong> option may be disabled by default on laptop\/notebook systems (it's normally enabled by default on desktop systems).<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>You can run <font color=\"#008800\" face=\"Courier New, Courier, monospace\"><strong>powercfg -waketimers<\/strong><\/font> from an Administrator Command Prompt to see what is currently set to wake the computer.
