BootIt BM\u00a0includes a feature that enables you to view and edit the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) file for Windows Vista and\u00a0Windows 7\/8.x\/10.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Accessing BCD Edit<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n

To view or edit a partition's BCD file:<\/p>\r\n

    \r\n\t
  1. Click the Partition Work<\/strong> icon on the BootIt\u00a0BM desktop (or press W<\/strong>).\u00a0 The Work with Partitions<\/strong> window appears.

    \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
  2. Select the appropriate drive using the Drives<\/strong> drop-down box.

    \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
  3. Select the appropriate partition. For\u00a0Windows Vista, it will usually be the Vista partition. For Windows 7\/8.x\/10 installed on an MBR (or EMBR) type disk, it\u00a0will be the System Reserved<\/em> partition (100MB or larger) if it exists, otherwise it will usually be the Windows partition; on GPT disks it will be the EFI system partition<\/em>.

  4. Click the BCD Edit <\/strong>button.\u00a0 The BCD Edit <\/strong>window appears.\u00a0 Note:<\/em><\/strong> If you click the BCD Edit<\/strong> button and get a No BCD Store<\/em> error message, you have probably selected the wrong partition.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

    Important BCD Settings<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\r\n

    To boot Windows Vista or Windows 7\/8.x\/10, ensure that your BCD is configured as follows:<\/p>\r\n

    Menu Entries<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

      \r\n\t
    1. Select the Menu<\/strong> radio button on the left side of the BCD Edit <\/strong>window.\u00a0 An entry titled Microsoft Windows Vista\u00a0<\/strong>or Windows 7\/8.x\/10<\/strong>\u00a0should appear in the Items<\/strong> list.
      \r\n
      \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
    2. Select the desired Windows item and then click the Edit<\/strong> button (or double-click the desired item).\u00a0 The properties of the selected item will appear in a new window.
      \r\n
      \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
    3. Select the Device <\/strong>entry from the list of Properties and then click the Edit <\/strong>button (or double-click the Device<\/strong> entry).\u00a0 The Edit<\/strong> window appears.

    4. In the\u00a0Device <\/strong>drop-down list, select the hard drive number on which the selected Windows\u00a0is installed.
      \r\n
      \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
    5. In the\u00a0Partition <\/strong>drop-down list, select the partition on which the selected Windows\u00a0is installed.
      \r\n
      \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
    6. Click OK<\/strong> in the Edit<\/strong> window.\u00a0 You will be returned to the window showing the properties of the\u00a0selected Windows item.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n
      \r\n

      Note:<\/strong><\/span> Repeat Steps 3 - 6 for the OS Device<\/strong> entry (i.e. in Step 3, select the OS Device<\/strong> entry).\u00a0 When done, click Close <\/strong>to return to the BCD Edit<\/strong> window.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

      Boot Entry<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

        \r\n\t
      1. Select the Boot<\/strong> radio button on the left side of the BCD Edit <\/strong>window.\u00a0 An entry titled Windows Boot Manager<\/strong> should appear in the Items<\/strong> list.
        \r\n
        \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
      2. Select the Windows Boot Manager<\/strong> item and then click the Edit<\/strong> button (or double-click the Windows Boot Manager<\/strong> item).\u00a0 The properties of the Windows Boot Manager<\/strong> item will appear in a new window.

        \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
      3. Select the Device <\/strong>entry from the list of Properties and then click the Edit <\/strong>button (or double-click the Device<\/strong> entry).\u00a0 The Edit<\/strong> window appears.
        \r\n
        \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
      4. For MBR (or EMBR) type disks,\u00a0you should generally have {boot}<\/strong> selected in the\u00a0Device <\/strong>drop-down list.\u00a0 In this case, the Partition <\/strong>drop-down list will be unused and inaccessible.\u00a0 However, if necessary, you may use the Device <\/strong>drop-down list to select the hard drive number on which the BCD file resides (i.e. the hard drive where the files bootmgr <\/strong>and \boot\bcd<\/strong> can be found).
        \r\n
        \r\nFor GPT type disks, use the Device <\/strong>drop-down list to select the hard drive number on which the BCD file resides.
        \r\n
        \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
      5. If you have a specific hard drive selected in the Device <\/strong>drop-down list, you must also select the partition on which the BCD file resides for the Partition <\/strong>drop-down list. For GPT disks you would select the EFI system partition<\/em>.
        \r\n
        \r\nNote:<\/span><\/strong> Repeat Steps\u00a02 -\u00a05 for the Windows Memory Diagnostic<\/strong> entry (i.e. in Step 2, select the Windows Memory Diagnostic<\/strong> entry).

        \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
      6. Click OK<\/strong> in the Edit<\/strong> window.\u00a0 You will be returned to the window showing the properties of the Windows Boot Manager<\/strong> item.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

        When done, click Close<\/strong> in the Windows Boot Manager<\/strong> properties window and then click Close<\/strong> on the BCD Edit <\/strong>window.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
