{"id":369,"date":"2008-11-06T05:25:00","date_gmt":"2008-11-06T13:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kb.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb-articles\/error-message-spt-minimum-appears-when-booting-the-system\/"},"modified":"2021-09-06T23:09:27","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T06:09:27","slug":"error-message-spt-minimum-appears-when-booting-the-system","status":"publish","type":"lsvr_kba","link":"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/kb-articles\/error-message-spt-minimum-appears-when-booting-the-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Error Message &#8220;SPT < Minimum\" Appears when Booting the System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Problem:<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <p>The following error message appears during system boot:<\/p>\r\n  <blockquote style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\r\n    <p><font color=\"#ff0000\">SPT &lt; Minimum<\/font><\/p>\r\n  <\/blockquote>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Cause:<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <p>The affected system contains partition(s) that are not aligned to cylinder boundaries, which causes the BIOS to change the geometry to invalid values.<br \/><\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Solution 1 of 2:<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <p>Configure the system BIOS to use its <strong>LBA Mode<\/strong> or <strong>Fixed Geometry<\/strong> setting.<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong>Please note:<\/strong> This method may not resolve the problem on some affected systems.<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Solution 2 of 2:<\/font><\/strong> <br \/><\/p>\r\n  <ol>\r\n    <li>Boot into BootIt NG from installation media. When the <strong>Floppy Boot Menu<\/strong> appears, click the <strong>Maintenance<\/strong> button.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Click the <strong>Partition Work<\/strong> button on the BootIt NG desktop.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Click the <strong>View MBR<\/strong> button on the <strong>Work with Partitions<\/strong> window.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Click the <strong>Fill E-CHS<\/strong> button on the <strong>View MBR<\/strong> window.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Click <strong>Apply<\/strong> on the <strong>View MBR<\/strong> window.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Boot into the installed copy of BootIt NG (not from the BootIt NG installation media). You may reboot either by pressing <strong>Ctrl+Alt+Delete<\/strong>, or by closing the <strong>Work with Parittions<\/strong> window and then selecting the <strong>Reboot<\/strong> button on the BootIt NG desktop.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>In BootIt NG <strong>Settings<\/strong>, enable the <strong>Align MBR End HS<\/strong> option. <\/li>\r\n  <\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Problem: The following error message appears during system boot: SPT &lt; Minimum Cause: The affected system contains partition(s) that are not aligned to cylinder boundaries, which causes the BIOS to change the geometry to invalid values.
