{"id":327,"date":"2007-05-04T04:03:00","date_gmt":"2007-05-04T11:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kb.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb-articles\/how-to-restore-the-windows-vista-or-windows-7-8-x-10-boot-manager\/"},"modified":"2021-09-07T15:16:25","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T22:16:25","slug":"how-to-restore-the-windows-vista-or-windows-7-8-x-10-boot-manager","status":"publish","type":"lsvr_kba","link":"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/kb-articles\/how-to-restore-the-windows-vista-or-windows-7-8-x-10-boot-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Restore the Windows Vista or Windows 7\/8.x\/10 Boot Manager"},"content":{"rendered":"Certain events can prevent the native Boot Manager of Windows Vista or&nbsp;Windows 7\/8.x\/10&nbsp;from running.&nbsp;Some examples are:<br \/>\r\n  <ul>\r\n    <li>An older version of Windows was installed after a newer version (e.g. Windows XP was installed after Windows 7).<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>The boot sector of the Windows partition was corrupted or overwritten somehow.<br \/><\/li>\r\n  <\/ul><strong>To restore the Windows&nbsp;Boot Manager:<\/strong><br \/>\r\n  <ol>\r\n    <li>Access the Windows RE environment.&nbsp; Instructions for running Windows RE can be found in the article&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/?p=322\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Access the Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE)<\/a><\/strong>. <br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Enter the following command at the Windows RE Command Prompt:<br \/><br \/><font color=\"#0000ff\">bootrec \/fixboot<\/font><br \/><br \/>This command will repair the boot sector of the Windows partition.<br \/><br \/><strong>Note:<\/strong> For more&nbsp;control over the boot sector repair process, see <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/?p=556\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Rebuild the Boot Sector for Windows Vista and Windows 7\/8.x\/10<\/a><\/strong>.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Exit the Command Prompt and restart the computer.
