{"id":274,"date":"2005-11-22T23:38:00","date_gmt":"2005-11-23T07:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kb.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb-articles\/how-to-remove-8-mb-of-free-space-at-the-beginning-of-a-hard-drive\/"},"modified":"2021-09-06T23:09:35","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T06:09:35","slug":"how-to-remove-8-mb-of-free-space-at-the-beginning-of-a-hard-drive","status":"publish","type":"lsvr_kba","link":"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/kb-articles\/how-to-remove-8-mb-of-free-space-at-the-beginning-of-a-hard-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Remove ~8-MB of Free Space at the Beginning of a Hard Drive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This article will explain how to effectively remove an ~8-MB block of free space appearing at the beginning of a hard drive.<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff0000\">Note:<\/font> <\/strong>If the free space appears within an extended partition, at the front, the condition is normal, and the free space cannot be removed.<\/p>\r\n  <ol>\r\n    <li>In the BootIt NG <strong>Settings<\/strong>, disable the <strong>Align on End<\/strong> setting, if it is enabled.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li><strong>Slide<\/strong> the first partition up, being sure to specify <strong>0 <\/strong>in the <strong>Free Space Before<\/strong> setting.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li><font color=\"#ff0000\"><strong>Important:<\/strong><\/font>&nbsp; Enable the <strong>Align on End<\/strong> setting before continuing.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li><strong>Resize<\/strong> the partition from Step 2 to the size shown under <strong>Max Size<\/strong> on the <strong>Resize <\/strong>window.<br \/><br \/>\r\n      <ul type=\"disc\">\r\n        <li>If you do not wish to enlarge this partition, perform the <strong>Resize <\/strong>operation without changing the <strong>New Size<\/strong> setting. <\/li>\r\n      <\/ul><br \/>Performing the resize operation, even without changing the actual size of the partition, causes the end of the partition to be aligned on a cylinder boundary.<br \/><br \/>\r\n    <\/li>\r\n  <\/ol>\r\n  <p>TeraByte Unlimited recommends leaving the <strong>Align on End<\/strong> setting enabled for general use of <strong>BootIt NG<\/strong>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article will explain how to effectively remove an ~8-MB block of free space appearing at the beginning of a hard drive.
