This article will explain how to specify a particular time zone for use by Image for DOS<\/a>.\u00a0 Using the appropriate time zone in this manner ensures that the date\/time stamps of the files created by Image for DOS will be correct when they are viewed within Windows.<\/p>\r\n

Please note that establishing a time zone environment variable is only necessary and applicable when saving images to NTFS partitions or to CD\/DVD discs.<\/p>\r\n

The time zone can be specified by placing the TimeZone<\/strong> variable in the IFD.INI file, using the \/tz<\/strong> command line option, or using the IFD<\/strong> environment variable. Examples of all three methods are shown below.<\/p>\r\n

Using IFD.INI<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The TimeZone<\/strong> variable is placed in the [Options]<\/strong> section of the INI file. For example, to specify Pacific Time:<\/p>\r\n

[Options]\r\nTimeZone=PST8PDT<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Note that you can easily add this option (as well as others) to the IFD.INI file when creating the Image for DOS boot media.<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

Using the \/tz command line option<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The \/tz<\/strong> option is included on the command line when running Image for DOS. For example, to specify Pacific Time:<\/p>\r\nimage \/b \/d:0@0x01 \/f:1@0x01:\backups\xp \/tz:PST8PDT<\/strong><\/span><\/blockquote>\r\n

Using the IFD environment variable<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The IFD<\/strong> environment variable can contain many options. In this example, it is being used solely to specify the Pacific Time time zone:<\/p>\r\nSET IFD=tz:PST8PDT<\/span><\/blockquote>\r\n

Option Format<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The format of the time zone option is the same regardless of the method used:<\/p>\r\n

TimeZone=AAA[+\/-]HBBB<\/span><\/blockquote>\r\n
\/tz:AAA[+\/-]HBBB<\/span><\/blockquote>\r\n
SET IFD=tz:AAA[+\/-]HBBB<\/span><\/blockquote>\r\n

Where:<\/p>\r\n

    \r\n\t
  • AAA<\/strong> is required, and is a three-character placeholder string to represent your time zone identifier;
    \r\n
    \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
  • +H<\/strong> or -H<\/strong> is required, and represents a number opposite<\/em> to your UTC offset (the +<\/strong> symbol is optional when the value is positive; the -<\/strong> symbol is required when the value is negative);
    \r\n
    \r\n<\/li>\r\n\t
  • BBB<\/strong> is optional, and, if present, instructs Image for DOS to account for daylight savings time.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

    TimeZone=ABC-12<\/strong><\/span>

      \r\n\t
    • ABC<\/strong> is a placeholder only, having no direct effect on the time zone designation.<\/li>\r\n\t
    • -12<\/strong> designates the time zone as equivalent to UTC +12.<\/li>\r\n\t
    • Since no string corresponding to BBB<\/strong> is present, daylight savings time compensation will not be performed.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
      \/tz:EST+5EDT<\/strong><\/span>
      \r\n
        \r\n\t
      • EST<\/strong> is a placeholder only, having no direct effect on the time zone designation.<\/li>\r\n\t
      • +5<\/strong> designates the time zone as equivalent to UTC -5.\u00a0 Using 5<\/strong> (without the +<\/strong> symbol) would have been equivalent.<\/li>\r\n\t
      • EDT<\/strong> specifies that daylight savings time compensation will be performed.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

        • The first +04<\/strong> is a placeholder only, having no direct effect on the time zone designation.<\/li>\r\n\t
        • The second +04<\/strong> designates the time zone as equivalent to UTC -4.\u00a0 Using +4<\/strong> (without the leading 0<\/strong>) would have been equivalent.<\/li>\r\n\t
        • Since no string corresponding to BBB<\/strong> is present, daylight savings time compensation will not be performed.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
