{"id":248,"date":"2005-05-22T01:30:00","date_gmt":"2005-05-22T08:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kb.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb-articles\/system-freezes-when-attempting-to-boot-from-the-bootit-ng-boot-menu\/"},"modified":"2021-09-06T23:09:38","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T06:09:38","slug":"system-freezes-when-attempting-to-boot-from-the-bootit-ng-boot-menu","status":"publish","type":"lsvr_kba","link":"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/kb-articles\/system-freezes-when-attempting-to-boot-from-the-bootit-ng-boot-menu\/","title":{"rendered":"System Freezes when Attempting to Boot from the BootIt NG Boot Menu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Problem:<\/font><\/strong>&nbsp; <\/p>\r\n  <p>The system freezes when attempting to boot from the <strong>BootIt NG Boot Menu<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#ff5500\">Cause:<\/font><\/strong>&nbsp; <\/p>\r\n  <p>This problem can be caused by any of the following conditions:<\/p>\r\n  <ul>\r\n    <li>A device is present that identifies itself as a hard drive to BootIt NG, even though the device is not a hard drive.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>The BootIt NG program file is corrupted. <\/li>\r\n  <\/ul>\r\n  <p><font color=\"#ff5500\"><strong>Solution:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/font> <\/p>\r\n  <p>Please carry out the following steps to correct this issue:<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#005858\">Resolving a Problem with a Misreported Device<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <ol>\r\n    <li>Select <strong>Maintenance<\/strong> on the BootIt NG Boot Menu.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Select the <strong>Partition Work<\/strong> icon on the BootIt NG desktop.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>Note how many hard drives are listed in the left side of the <strong>Work with Partitions<\/strong> window. \r\n      <p>If the number of hard drives depicted is greater than the number of hard drives that are actually present, you may have a device connected which is erroneously reported to BootIt NG as a hard drive. In this case, try the following:<\/p>\r\n      <ol type=\"a\">\r\n        <li>If the non-hard-drive device uses USB, disconnect it and try selecting the <strong>Boot<\/strong> button on the <strong>BootIt NG Boot Menu<\/strong> again. Alternatively, you may want to try disabling the <strong>Legacy USB Support<\/strong> option in the system BIOS (some systems may refer to this option as <strong>USB BIOS Support<\/strong>).<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n        <li>If the non-hard-drive device does not use USB, go into your system BIOS and set that IDE device to <strong>None<\/strong>. <br \/><\/li>\r\n      <\/ol>\r\n    <\/li>\r\n  <\/ol>\r\n  <p>If the problem remains, perform a clean install of BootIt NG, as explained below:<\/p>\r\n  <p><strong><font color=\"#005858\">Replacing a Corrupt BootIt NG Program File<\/font><\/strong><\/p>\r\n  <ol>\r\n    <li>Create a new BootIt NG installation disc or diskette.<br \/><br \/><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you are using a floppy diskette for the BootIt NG installation media, do a complete format on the floppy diskette first. This will&nbsp;help ensure that the diskette is reliable.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n    <li>If BootIt NG is installed on its own dedicated partition, reformat the partition before proceeding:<br \/><br \/><font color=\"#ff0000\"><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp; Reformatting the BootIt NG partition will cause all data on that partition to be lost.<\/font><br \/><br \/>\r\n      <ol type=\"a\">\r\n        <li>Boot with the BootIt NG installation disc or diskette.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n        <li>Select <strong>Maintenance<\/strong> on the <strong>Floppy Boot Menu<\/strong>.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n        <li>Select the <strong>Partition Work<\/strong> icon on the BootIt NG desktop.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n        <li>&nbsp;In the <strong>Work with Partitions<\/strong> window, select the hard drive and partition where BootIt NG is installed.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n        <li>Select <strong>Format<\/strong> button, then confirm. You may keep <strong>Cluster size<\/strong> set to <strong>Auto<\/strong> and the <strong>Align for NTFS conversion<\/strong> option deselected.<br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n      <\/ol>\r\n    <\/li>\r\n    <li>Reboot again, using the BootIt NG installation disc or diskette, and reinstall BootIt NG. Please refer to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.terabyteunlimited.com\/kb\/category.php?id=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BootIt NG Installation<\/a><\/strong> section of the Knowledge Base, if needed. <\/li>\r\n  <\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Problem:&nbsp; The system freezes when attempting to boot from the BootIt NG Boot Menu.
