How Does BootIt BM Handle Volume Labels?

BootIt BM handles volume labels as outlined below:

FAT/FAT32/NTFS/HPFS/Ext Partitions

If the Use Volume Label setting is enabled, BootIt BM retrieves and displays the volume label of the partition. If you change the volume label in BootIt BM the volume label of the partition will be updated. This applies to both EMBR and MBR drive types.

For EMBR type drives, if the Use Volume Label setting is disabled, BootIt BM displays the partition name stored in the MPT (or, for volumes, the OS/2 BM name). If you change the volume label in an environment other than BootIt BM, the new name will not be used by BootIt BM (the name from the MPT or OS/2 BM will continue to be used). Conversely, if you change the label in BootIt BM, then BootIt BM will continue displaying the new name, but the volume label itself will not be updated. To update the volume label you will need to either make the change in an environment other than BootIt BM or enable the Use Volume Label option.

For MBR type drives, if the Use Volume Label setting is disabled, BootIt BM retrieves and displays the volume label of the partition (same as if the option were enabled), but you will not be able to change it in BootIt BM.

All Other Partition Types

Whether or not the Use Volume Label setting is enabled, BootIt BM displays the partition name stored in the MPT (or, for volumes, the OS/2 BM name). If you change the volume label in an environment other than BootIt BM, the new name may not automatically be used by BootIt BM. (That is, BootIt BM may continue to display the name from the MPT or OS/2 BM.) In addition, if you change the label in BootIt BM, then BootIt BM will continue displaying the new name, but the volume label itself may not be updated (you may have to update the volume label in an environment other than BootIt BM).
