Unable to Create the BootIt BM Setup Media Under Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista or Windows 7/8.x/10
This problem can occur if you do not have the necessary privileges in Windows and also if the boot media is faulty. To correct this issue:
- Make sure that you are logged into Windows with Administrator privileges.
- Try a different boot media. Perform a full format on it first, to ensure its integrity.
If the BootIt BM Setup media creator (i.e. MakeDisk) cannot find or write to the boot media at all, and you are using Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Windows 7/8.x/10, you may be blocked from accessing it due to security settings.
If using a floppy disk as the boot media, you can use the following to try to solve this issue:
Go into the Local Security Settings or Local Security Policies applet and check status the Devices: Restrict floppy access to locally logged-on user only setting. You can find this applet in the Control Panel under Administrative Tools >> Local Security Policy. Expand Local Polices and then click on Security Options.
If this setting is enabled, you must either:
- Disable this security setting, reboot the computer, and then either log in as a member of the Administrators group, or use the "/runas /user:Administrator" command to run MakeDisk; or
- Leave the security setting enabled and log in as a member of the Administrators group the normal way (i.e. not using the "runas" command) before running MakeDisk.
