Screen Remains Black (Mouse Cursor Appears) When Booting from the Installation Diskette, or From Hard Drive with BootIt NG Installed

This problem can be caused by a number of things. Your best approach at a solution to this issue will depend on your configuration:

  • If you have a Zip® drive, please note that the "black screen" issue can be caused if the Zip® drive is configured as a hard drive. There may be a delay if you have your Zip® drive configured as a hard drive and no disk is in the Zip® drive. You can either insert a disk or change the Zip® drive setting in the BIOS from Enabled to Removable. Some BIOSes don't have a specific Zip® drive setting and it may be that it is configured along with the hard drives. In that case, set the correct controller/device from Auto (or a manually-configured setting) to None.

  • If you do not have a Zip® drive, try updating the system BIOS.
