Restoring drive but get error message

Hi, I'm trying to restore an image of a hard drive. But I get a message: "The target device selected has 4096 byte sectors when 512 bytes sectors are needed to restore the backup".

I've tried enabling 2048 byte alignment in global settings but that does not help.

The source and target drives are both 500gb, however the target drive is an "advanced format" drive.

I'm running Windows 7 if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

Which TeraByte app are you using for the restore?

Thanks. Which partition are your attempting to restore? Are you doing this in Windows or from a boot disk?

All the partitions on the drive (the entire disk). I am in Windows, the drive is a SATA drive mounted via a USB device. Should I try mounting the drive directly via SATA?

OK, I mounted the drive via a direct SATA connection and the restore is now running. The USB device is a Vantec IDE/SATA to USB adapter (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6812232002) . Very handy for recovering drives, this is the first instance where its failed me.

because the sector size has to match the source. your BIOS or environment
is reporting the sector size as 4096 instead of 512 which should still be in
place even when systems have larger physical sectors. you can't mix them
without having to reconfigure the entire file system (similar to resizing).

Hi. I'm sorry but I'm lost. What needs to be done to have this issue resolved?

you need a drive with the same sector size interface (or a BIOS that reports
the interface size not the physical size).
