Can you look at your ifw.log. What is the total time of your Changes only backups with and without the use of /usemd? In my case, despite the time taken for Gathering information, a /usemd backup is much faster.

As I say, without this option, the backup starts in 30 secs MAX, with
the option, I have waited at least 30 MINS without it starting. The
time it takes after it starts is not relevant to me. I like to see my
backup having started before leaving the PC...just in case.
I have noticed this behaviour on another PC too. Even IfD takes longer
to start, though nothing like the effect of this option on IfW.
