Restore doesn't list the unallocated space? Hmm...

Post by Stilez »

I'd like to restore a partition onto unallocated space on a dynamic disk.

Disk Management (discmgmt.msc) shows 340 GB data volume and 90 GB unallocated space on the target disk, but IfW just shows a 440 GB partition labelled "LDM data partition", which clearly contains both of these.

IfW could clearly see the different partitions/volumes when creating the backup, and the disk should be standard GPT (Microsoft notwithstanding!), so how does one restore data to the unallocated part of a GPT/dynamic disk?

The proprietary Dynamic drive layout is not supported. Volume level access
it would be transparent under windows, but the program access the physical
drive.

In that case, what's the best alternative way (in your experience) to restore my backed up system volume to that space? Converting the disk to "basic" would be preferable to avoid, if possible (as you can see it has other data that's mirrored and I'd like to keep it redundant).

I can obviously restore to a VHD as an intermediate step, if the TBI format happens to be an issue, but then what?
