I would have the question: If i use the backward compatibility Option while doing backup, does this come with some form of "Price" e. g. making backup slower or larger? And if a backup of 40GB takes about 21min how much slower would approx. it be?

Size and speed could be affected by compression options, no hash file, etc. Generally, those types of comparisons depend heavily on the system and particular scenario -- you'd need to run both and see what you got.

It also may not have extra data the newer versions can use to handle things
automatically on restores.
