Mary,
I didn't know about a Global inbox until you mentioned it so I have separate email accounts, each with its own inbox. I like it that way although I gather TB 24 can have a Global inbox.

Mary,
I just tested TB 24 and the Global inbox works for POP3 accounts.

It is called Local Folders in TB 17. Trash, Sent, etc, can
also go there.

Re: Ping Mary
I could not get to that screen to attempt to make a change
since TB 24 was unhappy with almost all the folders used for
storage.
Don't know why 17 is happy with ALL of them. I went in and
looked. There are no conflicts. All accounts use Local Folders.
I could not even make any changes to those whose storage
address 24 was happy with either.
It might work with new email accts just being set up but I
have lots of folders/emails I would lose if I do that.
TB will not import its own files either. I thought of that.

Re: Ping Mary
Mary,
Would you like to try this? Copy the TB Portable 17 folder that is working. Extract the TB Portable 24 exe to the copied folder. Does it work? That's how I upgrade. Extract the new exe to the old folder.

Re: Ping Mary
I do know just updating TB 17 did not work.
I did find a way to export various emails by folder I might
want to reference in the future. I exported as .eml since it
does not look like there is any way to import them as a
group no matter the format.
Am considering setting up a few email accounts on a new TB
24 and notice what is happening. It if looks like it is
okay, I may take the time to clean up old stuff I just
haven't done yet.
I can try doing the copy for Portable. Easy to delete if
it is messed up.

Re: Ping Mary
TB 17 has the email accts in Global Folders that is separate from the
usual Local Folders option.
That may be messing 24 up. I have only seen the Local Folders option in
24 so is worth a test.
Will test later today.

Re: Ping Mary
I moved all accounts to their own folders.
Updated to TB 24. Still did not like where stuff was stored and won't
accept attempted changes.
If I want to move to 24 or higher it looks like I need to start a clean
install of TB and maybe use the Portable 17 I have if I want to get old
emails later on.
I did start to set it up am using TB 24 now to send this message.
I did a Mozbackup from new to old computer of TB 24 and it looks like it
worked well so far.
The TB 24 file is significantly smaller than 17, too.
I did trf a few of the more recent, important emails from exported .eml
by forwarding the emails into TB 24. It took a bit of time to pick &
choose and with the TB 17 Portable I will be able to retrieve others if
necessary down the line.
For now, I will probably stay with regular TB 24 since the Mozbackup
worked well to trf to my old computer.
Thanks for all your assistance, Brian.

TB 24
Thunderbird 24 is doing an excellent job of picking out SP__AM.
It may be even better than 17.
Maybe it is worth the effort to get it working after all.
