I tried to recover my computer using Image for DOS from an incremental backup. It did the recovery but Windows goes into repair mode.
I have a fairly recent IFW backup on a 3.0 USB 2TB external drive but Image for DOS hangs when I choose the USB option.
I tried the Image for Linux and it gets stuck:
Waiting for udev to complete [BUSY]
I'm at the point of removing one of the hard drives, connecting it to another computer and transferring the recovery file to it.

Re: Windows 8.1 Image for Linux won't boot: udev
I managed to restore a month old backup using IFD and will try to get the settings back from the latest incremental backup which can be viewed.
The curious thing is that the incremental backup was timed at 9.43pm when it is set to backup at 1.30am.
Also, the incremental backup was slightly larger than the windows folder being backed up.
So I'm wondering if IFW had anything to do with the crash.
I'd still like to know how to get IFL working.

1) If not already using the latest version of IFL (currently IFL 2.95), please try that, since that by itself could resolve the problem. Registered users can always update to the latest version at no cost on the Product Download page here: https://terabyteunlimited.com/product-download.php
2) If still a problem with the latest IFL version, disconnect any external devices not needed for IFL (USB devices, etc) before booting, to see if that gets you by the hang.
3) If still a problem, try waiting out the 3 minute timeout at the udev hang (3 min timeout is indicated on the screen) to see if that gets you past it. If so, please create an IFL report by right clicking the IFL desktop and choosing Create Report (GUI version), or choosing Auxiliary Menu / Create Report (CUI version), and then follow the prompts to save the report (report.txt) to a drive or partition such as a USB flash drive. Then email the report to Terabyte Support (support@terabyteunlimited.com). If needed, this KB article explains how to create/save an IFL report:

Thanks Tom, I'll have to download the trial version and type in my password as I have lost the email with purchase details ... in a previous crash.

In the meantime, could you answer this other post I made a while back? It has happened again. I think IFW incremental backup is making continual changes, making it useless for retrieving Documents & Settings made the day before a crash.

you have to open the incremental itself - whichever file you open will be
the one that is opened (any ones after that are not opened).

Yes I opened the incremental file that was made yesterday at 2am. The files it shows have the date of the recovery backup made 24 days ago. Where have the current files in the incremental backup gone?

it's not file based, it doesn't go anywhere, all sector level changes are in
the incremental files. The file dates are when last modified, not the date
of the backup. The log will indicate which volumes are processed.
